I Get The Picture

SDC10464

About the middle of August, we got two violent windstorms within a week.  Not hurricane   quality like KayJai received, but nasty.  The second, especially, had downdraft winds which snapped branches and trees in LadyRyl’s neighborhood.  These shots are of a 100-year-old willow, beside the creek, in front of her complex.

A couple of blocks away, this big maple beside the road was snapped off about 8 feet up.  After cutting it up for giveaway firewood, the artistic homeowner turned the remains into an eagle.

SDC10467

When I went to pick up Granma LadyBug, after her nose surgery, I spotted this sign….Pick her up??  Or have a beer and pizza??  I’d like to claim that I did the honorable thing, but the truth is, I’m too broke to be naughty.

 SDC10470

LadyRyl took a couple of shots of the knapped agate knife she bought at the pow-wow.  Not SDC10469much difference, but one is the front, and the other, of course, is the back.

At the same pow-wow, the grandson bought a cool smudge fan to be used to move sage-smoke, or incense around – no hemp!  Can’t even spell hemp!

The only Segway owner/rider in the Region, and possibly all of Southern Ontario, apparently lives near enough that he shops at EuroFood, my favorite little deli.  Since he was only going to be inside “for just a couple of minutes”, he left the key in it.  If a Segway key is like the key for the daughter’s power wheelchair, it’s only a stereo-cord plug.  You could ride away with it while listening to music on your headphones.

Didn’t matter!  Apparently two teenage boys just lifted it up and carried it off.  Two words, fool – Bike! Lock!  I was going to scan in the newspaper picture of him in his gay little bicycle helmet, but if you want a photo of a clueless guy looking lost, my gravatar is still available.  He’s 62, and the old-boy genius liked to ride around on his Segway with a clown nose, or Oktoberfest lederhosen, with a bright feather in his helmet.  I don’t want to picture either of those. Ew, ew, ew!

U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, from Texas, is probably more responsible than any other individual for the government shutdown.  He recently stood and spoke about nothing for 22 hours, (Sorry for the redundancy.) trying to prevent the passage of Obama’s Health Care bill.  Sarah Palin says she supports him.  She’s always liked him since he was in the movie Top Gun.

He’s a member of a political party which has been bitching for years, that Barack shouldn’t be president, because he wasn’t born in the U.S., and now he wants to run for president himself, in 2016.  The biggest problem with that, is that he is a poutine-eating, Maple syrup-sucking Canadian!  Sshh, don’t tell him.  While his mother was a US citizen, his father was from Cuba, and he was born in a hospital in Calgary, while his dad worked in the (Canadian) oil industry.

While the US government may consider him a citizen, his birth certificate makes him a Canadian.  He has thundered to the press that he will renounce his Canadian-ness, and claims, “I’m an American by birth.”  So sad, dad!  Tough luck Chuck!  The boundaries of his egotistical imagination do not match up with reality.

At least Barack eventually provided an American birth certificate.  After this little revelation, I can’t picture him even being allowed to run for president.  I would like a picture of his face when he finds out that, for all his ugly-American jingoism, the rules include him out.

Did you like our pictures?  We’re practicing for some upcoming posts with photos in them.  Kittens anyone??    😀

  2. Holy crap – that was a mouthful 🙂 I love the wind, in fact I’m a weather fanatic. When we were in Havana a tropical storm passed over the city. I was on the roof of the hotel (this is where the pool was) hotel staff madly ordered everyone out of the pool and off the roof. I had no intention of leaving – grinning from ear to ear as funnel clouds formed and lightning exploded around us. They literally dragged me from the roof seconds before a bolt of lightning struck a few feet away. It was amazing! Cuba being the perfect Segway for Ted Cruz….

Weather’s fine, in its place – outside. You don’t have to shovel it. When people mention blow hard, they’re usually talking about me. Had a school-mate who was lucky, to wake up ten feet from his porch, while watching a storm like that.
Nice article on that Cruz link. You got a stay-away petition going?? I’ll sign up. 😉

Genius idea for the eagle! Would you please take Ted Cruz back? How about trading the tree eagle for him?

Unfortunately the rules do not bar the tripartite Cruz national sandwich from running for president any more than they did John McCain. John was born in the Panama Canal Zone, but by law, children born outside the United States with at least one U.S. citizen parent usually have birthright citizenship by parentage. (The “usually” signals that if your parents weren’t married, there may be a problem.)

Personally, I would be in favor of amending the law concerning who can run for president or vice president: If the candidate’s speaking voice is rated by a random room of people to be worse than fingernails on a blackboard, he or she may not run. This would have neatly disqualified Sarah Palin as well as Mr. civic sandwich.

I only knew of the ‘born in the US” rule. Trust you to have the nitty, as well as the gritty. So, we can disown him and unload him on you guys, without remorse.

Do people find Sarah’s actual voice as disagreeable as the (lack of) content. I thought it was somewhat mellifluous. I recently saw an interview with John Cleese where he said that he had to apologise to Michael Palin, because he no longer thought he was the funniest Palin. Cleese thought that she was like a well-trained parrot, mindlessly repeating the words she’d been carefully taught, without a clue as to their meaning. 😀

😆 Admittedly, John, when the stew (or the sandwich) is unpalatable it’s hard to identify the problem herbs. I just hope he’s flushed before he can ruin our digestion.

Funny how Rafael “Ted” Cruz doesn’t bring up the birther issue. I’d like to see his birth certificate too.

He doesn’t want to bring up, something he may have to live down. I have a newspaper copy of the certificate in front of me, but it’s only 2″ X 3″. It takes a magnifying glass to get much detail. I don’t think scanning it in and enlarging it would end well. An unbeloved ex-Prime Minister had TWO sons born on Christmas Day, one better than God, which he thought he was. Cruz popped out early, on December 22, 1970.

What a nasty windstorm uprooting a 100 year old willow and snapping a maple, I like the eagle though, the guy is very talented. Hey Arch, I now have a picture of an old fuddy duddy riding a Segway, in the funny clothes you explained so beautifully, trying to be hip with the bright feather in his helmet….I was hysterical with laughter, thank you for making my day. I don’t know much about American politics, but you did give me a few laughs about Sarah Palin and Ted Cruz. Love your photos.

Despite the number of branches and trees downed, very few of them hit power lines, houses or cars. That maple lay down in the middle of a narrow street, in the opposite direction from the cables in the photos.

I’ve had to give up roller-skating, a motorcycle, and my bicycle. The only thing preventing me from being that old fuddy-duddy, is poverty.

Glad you liked the shots. The wife doesn’t know how close she came to having to wait for a Guinness and a pepperoni pizza. 🙄

Liked your photos, but would suggest for future you might want to put them in slide form. The reason I mention this, when I clicked on a pic to enlarge it I had to completely exit your post completely to get to the next pic. Love the eagle, clever homeowner!

Enlargements worked fine on this end. Perhaps WordPress hasn’t been taking its meds, again! I went back to a post where your gravatar was correct, but no time for comment was given, only, now, it is. Will try to figure out “slide form” for next time. 😕

  12. You know, there are several folk around here who have fishing boats (small ones, granted). I’d LOVE to take ol’ Cruzie out on the water. And if he slipped and fell off the boat while holding several tons of anchor chain, well, stuff happens! 😉
Oh, and I think I owe you and the Missus a belated Happy Thanksgiving. Take one out of petty cash. Heck, take two – I’m feeling generous! 😀

I can’t say that everybody hates Cruz, obviously he has many followers.

I need two Thanksgiving wishes. One for the day, and one for the fact that, locally, it ties to Oktoberfest, and all the drunkaholics have finally gone home, leaving the streets to the usual bunch of idiots. 🙂
