Inheritance

He went to visit Grandpa again.  As he had for almost a year, he’d ply him with beers, and impress him with how great a guy he was.  Surely he wouldn’t last much longer.

“Come in Rob.  I just finished writing up my will.  I’ll get us some Coors.”

Quick, while he’s out, read it.

“The house is on reverse mortgage.  The bank gets it when I’m gone.  Being of sound mind, I spent it all.  To my grandson Robert:  Stop waiting for it to fall in your lap.  Go get a job.”

Go to Rochelle’s Addicted to Purple site, and use her Wednesday picture as a prompt to write a complete 100 word story.

  4. Dear Archon,

I nearly fell out of my chair reading your last line. Glad I wasn’t drinking at the time. 😉 Well said. Applause!

LOL I love this, particularly since my mom took out a reverse mortgage on her place (a necessity after my father passed). And why shouldn’t they enjoy and use the fruits of their labor?

I haven’t thought well of this format, but this is a good one. Reminds me of one of the anecdotes I used to enjoy at the end of articles in the Reader’s Digest. 🙂

These little 100 word dashes are not for everybody, giving or taking. Don’t worry. I’ve got lots of jokes and verbosity left, in the back.

I remember Readers’ Digest fondly. I picked one up recently, and it was more like a Readers’ Flyer. I’ve seen larger resumes with job applications. 😥

Everybody has a nephew like that. Well….mine was a sister, greedy and manipulative.

I don’t know about Coors. I have an American friend who gets frequent flyer miles from Adolph Coors himself, but I live in Canada, and the little beer I drink is Heineken Dark, from Holland. 🙂

Too many of them need someone to tell them. This was just a little cry against the “Entitled Generation.” The Georgia Satellites (?) – Get a haircut, and get a real job! 😯

Oh, it’s a rude awakening for the sap. I can’t say I’m upset about it. It will probably do him good to get a job and earn some money. Good one!

  13. Archon, Hilarious. 😀 Robert deserved that. I hope he enjoys the beer. Good for his grandpa. It may well be the best thing that ever happens to Robert. Well written. 🙂 —Susan

A yes, the bum of a grandson. Time to grow up.
But I fear Grandpa has just lost his drinking buddy.

This little exercise seems to have touched a lot of nerves. I feel that Grandpa is independent enough to find other, better company, if he needs it. “Here’s champagne to our real friends, and real pain to our sham friends.” 😯
