Flash Fiction #31

senility stairway

Whole Lotta Love

In 1968, four more young English lads got together and formed another band which strongly influenced popular music.  They united to form a group eventually known as Led Zeppelin.

With their psychedelic style and their drug usage heavily influencing each other, they only lasted 12 years as a group before the lifestyle killed their drummer.  Still, in that time they produced some memorable music.

45 years later, it’s still on the radio.  They’ve tried a few ‘Reunion’ concerts, but are getting a bit long in the tooth.  As Jimmy Page recently remarked, “Nowadays it’s more just a Stairway to Senility.”

Go to Rochelle’s Addicted to Purple site and use her Wednesday picture as a prompt to write a complete 100 word story.

Thank you to all my visitors.  The best of the season to all of you, whatever Holiday you may choose to celebrate.   😀

BTW;  As previously threatened, and with help from Rochelle’s Flash Fictions to help pad out my numbers, this is my 400th post, and on Christmas, as predicted.  Anybody got any unused themes lying around to help get me to 500?   😕

(And good morning Peter and family.  Merry Christmas!  Enjoy the cookies and think of us.)    😉

Researching Led Zeppelin may yield interesting results. 😕
I’ve been to the WordPress daily prompt site, but never seem to find a theme I have sufficient knowledge or interest to write about. My plea for a theme was a facetious play on my continuing insecurity about finding things within my personal sphere to get me to 200, or 300, or 400 posts – and yet I have, and expect to continue to. 😉

You are fortunate to have seen and heard Plant perform. I have only attended concerts by Jethro Tull, The Moody Blues, and Billy Joel – and as you might guess from those names, not for about 20 years. 🙄

Cheers to #400!!! … and to think of all the bits of wit and wisdom on these pages is a bit daunting.

BTW … I tried to phone our friend, but got answering machines … so who knows.

As for your story, well … this says it all … http://tinyurl.com/2lmyu3

Thanx for the cheers Frank – and for the rimshot. It helps keep me real….and humble.

Did they win the Ohio lottery and move back to Chicago? Or has he just found a new hobby to distract him? They’re probably all right, as my visit proved, but it would alleviate worries to know. 😯

  5. Dear Archon,

This reads more like an article than fiction. The last line had me rolling…and then crying. 😉

    Shalom,

I’ve seen you do history-based posts, and my senility caused me to forget that this exercise has ‘Fiction’ in the title. Of course, as the last line proves, only about every second word I publish is true – and you’d have to go back and find the first one, to know which are which. 🙄

  6. Congrats on the 400th post!

I was lucky enough to see Led Zeppelin in concert in 1973 (yes, I’m old) and still have my ticket stub. They were great. One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to.

  10. Archon, I’ve heard of Led Zeppelin and have probably heard their music but was not a follower. I’m more familiar with creaky at my age. Well done. Happy Holidays! 🙂 — Suzanne

And with good memories too….or vague ones, after the herb took over??
I guess it depends where you’re raised. I imagine there are bands from Japan or Singapore with millions of fans that I’ve never heard of. 🙂
