Flash Fiction #48

Belgium

PHOTO PROMPT – © Dee Lovering

IF IT’S TUESDAY, THIS MUST BE BELGIUM

You know, they made a movie about this, back in the ‘60s.  We scrimped and saved for years to afford our only European Vacation.  I suggested France, but you booked us on this 12-night, 13-day, whirlwind nine-country tour.

I wanted to see the Eiffel Tower, Pei’s crystal pyramid at the Louvre, the Versailles Palace, perhaps the Cote d’azur.  Instead, I’ve seen cows, and sheep, and oats, and potatoes – all streaming by the other side of the dirty windows of this bus.  I’ve seen smelly harbors and – and….What’s this?  The shrine of Saint Shania Twain?

I wanna go to Disneyland!  😥

Go to Rochelle’s Addicted to Purple site and use her Wednesday photo as a prompt to write a complete 100 word story.

Bus tour holiday… I’ve never done one, but I’m not inclined to either.

Nice work, you can feel the disappointment:)

Another comic take. Never pegged you as a “Vacation” fan.

I’ve met many tourists like this during my own travels. Funny, but tragic for those who travel. Always such a hurry… Great take on the prompt.

Monetary and medical restrictions keep us close to Southern Ontario. I’ve never been to Europe, and had no idea that the photo was of Spain. I could say that I was reliving my youth, but I was married, with a child, when the title movie was released. 😯

Even a Lottery win by the generous son would not eliminate allergies/breathing problems. The wife cannot fly. We are restricted to wherever we can drive….although, I could hire a chauffeur. Let’s see – Calgary, B.C. California, Florida, Carolinas, Virginia, blog friends in Newfoundland. RVs-R-Us. 😉

  5. Hilarious, Archon. I have a good friend who went on a European trip like that years ago. 😀 — Suzanne

My condolences to him/her, although, sometimes even failures can be fun, if you don’t dwell on the negatives, and go with the flow. We’ve been lost, and found things that were prettier and more interesting than what we started out looking for. 😆

    jet lag
    EXPENSES
    endless gift shops
    roaming charges

Thank God (or any un-named deity) for the internet. Old bones and old car are keeping us close to home. The Blog Fellowship trip will probably be the last one outside Canada until after September next year, when I turn 72, and get an RRSP payout to afford something newer and more reliable. 🙄

  8. First rule of vacationing: book the trip yourself! Great story–clever and funny! I can feel the frustration. 🙂

Trying to fit too much into a holiday generally means you never get to enjoy any of it. Great story!

This was a 12-night, 13-day, whirlwind nine-county tour (not country tour) of Tennessee beginning in Nashville at the grand old Opry, the Paris of country music.

Yeehaw! I ain’t watched the Opry since before Minnie Pearl hung up her hat.
As fer Shania the liar, y’all or the Frogs can keep her, as long as she don’t come north again. 👿

  11. Ah.. Too much in too few days.. I did interrail when I was young, but finding your way through Europe by train was another thing,

Yes, many Americans have no idea how ‘dense’ Europe is. On a tour like this, time spent getting there is stolen from time being there. 😦 Thanx for taking the tour through my site again. 🙂

‘Bad trip’? They could go right next door to Disneyland – to Bakersfield, where it’s always Breaking Bad. Just ask their neighbor, Walter White? 😉 😆
