Chain

SHIFTING SANDS

I finished reading my book, and I’m bored.  I’ll have some crackers.

LINK!

I’ll make a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch.  The bread is small.  I’ll make two.

LINK!

It’s TV commercial time.  I’ll eat a few chips.

LINK!

Doctor says my cholesterol level is normal, but the weight is creeping up.

LINK!

Abdominal fat surrounds and presses on organs, adversely affecting them.  Phooey!  I’ll live forever.

LINK!

And so, like Ebenezer Scrooge, our chains of obesity are acquired.  So easily gained, forged one link at a time.  So difficult to divest ourselves of.

Cast off your chains.  Be healthy.

The above is a somewhat distressing, very personal account of the five years since I retired, still eating as I did when I worked, but no longer working.  I would not insult by pointing fingers and using the ‘Fat’ word, just a gentle reminder, and a wish for the best for all.

Go to Rochelle’s Addicted to Purple site and use her Wednesday photo as a prompt to write a complete 100 word story.

at first, I was like ‘WTF’ is he talking about….I tried clicking on the links….nothing…then my brain snapped and I got it. Nice writing…

Interesting that you went with the chain, not the animals. 🙂

Do I need to get out the Windex, and clean my glasses?? Even staring at that photo, I see no animals. I just peered down past my well-rounded personality at the keyboard, and saw that big heavy chain. The rest, as they say, is history….or was that court records?? 🙄

Your brain has figured it out. Now, the question is, is your digestive system linked to your brain? 👿

I appreciate why diet programs like Jenny Craig insist that you record everything that you put in your mouth, even if you chew your nails. It’s not like I sit down and gorge on an entire roast turkey. Being home just means that I’m more exposed to the opportunities and temptations – a little of this, a bit of that – at the end of a day, it adds up. Even a juice glass of Pepsi contains over 50 calories. 😮

Good reminder to all. Interesting format…only understood the “Links” at the end.

Surprisingly for me, I caught the theme right away. I’ve been thinking I eat too much ice cream as the scale has crept up.
Great story. Good luck with the more health regime!

Oh, I so get this… wide clothes can only hide so much… This is a great idea for the prompt. Counting calories, more exercise and will power is what works… if only I could find that will power somewhere.

Yes, retirement can be tricky that way! And I am speaking from experience. Unfortunately. 😁

Heart disease and high cholesterol run in my family. I’m getting my cholesterol checked on Monday. I’m really serious now. These things do creep up on you. Great take.

You’ve described a common experience very aptly. I like your metaphor. I wish you well with your more mindful approach to food.

  12. Love it. Great warning flash. But how do you break the links is my question. Like you I have watched it go on and just keep on watching.

It took me a minute to get the “links” but it all came together in the end. Very clever.

  15. So true, Archon. Weight is very sneaky. We have to be on guard. It’s especially bad when we’re at home around the food a good bit of the time. Well done. 🙂 — Suzanne

I have a first-world problem that’s been ingrained in me. “Eat all your food! There are people starving in India.” So I ate all my food, and there are still people starving in India. Now they’re also dying from the heat.
How have you fared with it?? Does your suite/apartment have air conditioning? 😳
