Flash Fiction #60

THERE’S NO EXCUSE

It was a dark and stormy night. The clouds looked like God Himself had burned them, like marshmallows over a giant campfire, then stuck one of His fingers through, so that He could see the moon…..

Dear Ms Wisoff

Please forgive Archon for not completing his assignment on time this week. His girlfriend, Erato, abandoned him – again, and he’s been quite depressed.

He’s been in bed for days, with a cheap hooker and expensive blow bad case of flu. If you can excuse this one omission, he promises to have two bright Flash Fictions for next week.

Thanx

Mama Archon

White man speak write with forked tongue keyboard. If I can’t do a serious 100-word FF, I’ll publish another travelogue. Want a nice, nearby place to go for a vacation? (Well, 500 miles 😕 )

Look into New York State. Last year we visited the Finger Lakes region because we enjoy wine. Some wonderful state park in that region. Corning Museum of Glass was awesome … reasonably priced ($18) – and the ticket is good for two days. Once you start looking into the area, I imagine you’ll find more. We went in the just about Labor Day (first Monday in Sept).

Oops! Poor construction. 😦 There was a question mark on that reply. Sometime soon, I’m going to offer you (and everyone else) a trip to a Botanical Garden in Richmond, VA.
We almost reached Corning, NY on one trip, but turned south at a place quaintly named Painted Post, where I got to stand about 10 feet from a deer, grazing in a ditch, outside a Wal-Mart. 😀

At FF number 60 I think you’re entitled to a bit of a break.

Ah, I enjoy doing them, and they help my stats, but I am such a linear thinker – and none too quick. When I look back on this one next week, I’ll go, “I shoulda done the camping story.” Too late. 😦
When all else fails, throw in a little comedy. 😆

It was, at one time, voted the worst opening line for a novel. Even Charles Schultz has plagiarized it, to show Snoopy as a failed writer. I used it to highlight my inability to think of anything original, and better. Actually, I rather like it also. I had hoped that someone would like the crossed-out ‘hooker and blow’ passage. 😕 🙂

  7. Dear Archon’s Mother,

First there’s the F for “It was a dark and stormy night.” I hope he’s over his carnal flu soon but, sadly, I’ll have to hold him back a grade.

    Shalom,

    Ms. Wisoff
