Flash Fiction #83

TOO CLOSE ENCOUNTERS

No-one knew what the odd little posts in the Lotus Lagoon were for, or even how they’d got there. They just seemed to appear one day.

Late one night about a week ago, I was walking home from the bar and a strange, silent, glowing airplane without wings swooped out of the night sky and settled onto the pilings. A ramp dropped down, and two squid-like things waddled into the water.  Then it rose soundlessly and disappeared into the dark heavens….

I KNOW what I saw!  Take this strait-jacket off, and let me out of here!  I can prove it.

Go to Rochelle’s Addicted to Purple site and use her Wednesday photo as a prompt to write a complete 100 word story.

  1. Dear Archon,

I believe him. Sure I do. Of course I do. Little green men were on that flight, right? Won’t they be surprised? Well written…I enjoyed the ride.

    Shalom,

Good work! Sci Fi, a la Douglas Adams.

Short sharp and to the point, just right if you ask me. I see two very differing scenarios here

Being invaded by squids, and no one heeds the warnings. Fun story.

  6. Oh my, a straight jacket. It looks like they’re going to the
extreme. I’m sure he’s seen them. Perhaps, is he can explain?
I want to know more, Archon. Good intro to a sci-fi story.

They might be extreme, but he may be well known for these coming-home-from-the-bar stories. 😯
You’ll have to write the rest of it. These 100 words have tired me right out. 😉

I believe him! This would make an interesting location for them to land.

Physical and chemical restrictions have caused almost all Sci-Fi writers to assume land-based aliens. I’ve only read a couple of stories where we get water-based visitors.
Thanx for the read and comment. 🙂

Someone listen to this man – or give him another drink to shut him up. Love your story, Archon.

Fun story! I like the idea of a landing pad on the piling.

I couldn’t understand why those poor, abandoned posts weren’t doing something exciting, like being a boat dock, or a fishing walkway. Suddenly it came to me, and I wrote it down, and then took my medication. 😉 😯

  12. Actually, I was there as well and I fully support your delusion. But I think there were three squids, not two, although I might be getting this confused with in-laws showing up at holiday gatherings…

The third squid was the valet parking attendant. He didn’t actually land – uh, ocean? He had to get the keys back to the Mother-ship. Your holiday gatherings may (obviously do) vary. 😉
