The air in Oklahoma is too dry, the wife said. It’s like living in a clothes dryer, especially when a tornado puts you on spin cycle. We can work from home anywhere. Let’s move to Maine – Acadia National Park, gorgeous scenery, moist sea-breezes.
Then, along comes a Big Bad Wolf hurricane. It huffed, and it puffed, and…. we used to have a house right there. It’s alright. It left us another – an assemble-it-yourself log cabin. I hope all the parts are pre-numbered. We need to assemble it soon. That buzzard is looking hungry. Be careful what you wish for.

The buzzard was the eagle’s cousin from Oklahoma, that he had me hire as a stand-in, just for this story. We return you now to your regularly scheduled magnificence. 😉

Magazines offer advice sometimes on the “best” places to live or retire. My take is that there is no best place, they all have good and bad points. We lived in Hawaii for 3 years when I was in the Navy. You might think that was ideal but the truth is that the climate can get boring and the island can feel cramped. Circling Oahu is a trip of about 60 miles and there’s not much variety to it. As for attractions, if you’ve seen them once you are pretty much done with them. Perhaps the most important qualities are crime rates, crowding, traffic and cost-of-living. And weather of course. Don’t go to Houston to live.

I read a book once, “The Gods Hate Kansas” – among other things…. tornado alley. I launched this Ark from Oklahoma – actually, a tornado blew me there. I passed Dorothy, wearing her ruby slippers, listening to ‘Dust In The Wind.’ 😉 🙂

There are
foolspeople like that around here, who insist on living without flood insurance in houses with no basements, on the river flood-plain. There’s gorgeous scenery when it’s dry, but every 5 years or so, the spring crest is higher than usual, and they have to discard thousands of dollars of food, clothing, books, electronics – rebuild a garage or toolshed. 😯LikeLiked by 1 person

I’ve seen (and swam in) the Atlantic Ocean, from Florida gulf-coast to North Carolina. Nice – but tame. I’d like to visit Maine. MSN occasionally feeds me monitor wallpaper shots from Maine. Looks impressive. 🙂
