A To Z Challenge – T

april-challenge

This will be a DIY, or interactive post, for the letter

letter-t

Back last April, when I decided to try this challenge, I also decided to cheat (a bit). Each day, I would scan a variety of other posts, to see what words their writers had chosen, to pick one that sparked some inspiration.  Sometimes it worked; sometimes it didn’t.  This is a ‘didn’t work’ letter.  I wrote down;

Tough
Tarts
Too much
Think
Treasure
Tease
Trash
Train – (noun or verb)
Torrid – or is that….
Torpid – I can’t read my own writing

I would like to make this an audience-participation, contest-y sort of post. I invite all of my readers to choose one of the above words, or provide any other T-word.  Leave a comment, giving your word, and hopefully some kind of prompt.

We can’t rely on ‘First Through The Door” kind of thing, so I will choose one at random, and use your word and prompt to attempt to compose a short post about it.

So, what do we have for our embarrassed loser lucky winner, Johnny?

Well Bob, first they will receive my undying thanks for pulling me out of a compositional blue funk. They’ll also experience the incomparable joy of seeing their name up in lights on my blog.  I’ll even try to link to their site, so that others can know what they’ve done.

C’mon folks, everyone is welcome to submit an idea. The more, the merrier – I am.  You can’t win unless you enter.  If you don’t, you’ll just get some more;

I’ve claimed that I’m tough. I’m probably not.  It’s more like overcooked, dry, and stringy.  I just finished two of my once-a-year mincemeat tarts.  I should have only eaten one, because I’ve already had too much tryptophan from too much turkey, since I’m writing this at Christmas.

I like to think that I can compose the occasional little linguistic treasure, but it’s just a tease. Too often, it’s only another example of taking out the mental trash, which I use to help me train to write better. ‘Torrid’ must have been a typo, because I’ve never had ‘that much’ passion about anything in my life.  With my rotund tummy stuffed full of Christmas goodies, I’ll just become torpid, and hibernate until New Years comes along.

Your suggestions are welcome, because my inspiration is….also hibernating.   😛

    Her tarts were a true treasure, but I ate too much even though she said they were tough. In my torpid state, I couldn’t even think straight to trash her cute attempts at teasing me. Ultimately, I fell asleep and missed my train.

      Oh, you poor thing! I thought you commuted by bus – but ‘bus’ doesn’t begin with ‘T.’
      It’s a mark of my age that the only tarts I’m interested in are the baked ones. I couldn’t finish even one of the short-skirted variety downtown, looking for ‘dates.’ 😦

    I was going to do the A-to-Z thing last year and focus on woodworking terms. I had planned to use ‘Tennon’ for ‘T’ which might be why I gave up on the idea.

      I would imagine that it would be difficult to wax poetic about things like mortise, and tenon, although you might have got a band of worshipping woodworkers at your door.
      I recently discovered what ‘cookies’ are, in woodworking terms. A plant electrician, whose hobby was woodworking, got to use his new cookie-kit to repair a strip-glued cutting board for me, which had come apart because of deep fryer heat. 🙂

        We do love opportunities to use our tools. I always pick up a few woodworkers after a post like that, but then they fade away when they realize that mine is not a woodworking blog. If I ever figure out what kind of blog it is, I’ll be sure to let people know.

        I understand. I keep reading my own, hoping to find out what kind it is. 😉

    I think this teaser is not trivial, but rather trenchant and teleological. To some it may be trite, though it may appeal to twittering toffs (like Trump) thinking to thicken their thesauruses. 🙂

      I’m going to stand back, and enjoy the construction of that reply. To paraphrase Wayne and Garth, “I’m not worthy! I’m not worthy!”
      Monty Python should have had a Department of Silly English Constructions. I prefer ‘toph’ and ‘bumf’, because they started as top hat, and bum fodder. I questioned a Canadian columnist as to why he used both ‘toff’ and ‘bumph’. His reply was that he’d checked an American dictionary for British slang. 😯 Good thinking – not!

      I’ll have to do some research, because I never watched any cheesy B-movies in the 80s – more than once a night. 😉
      Do Clint Eastwood masterpieces count??!
      You may be elected by acclamation. No-one else has entered this contest.

      • Really? I thought Brain Rants did? He had a nifty little number. Sure. Clint had some tacky things going on in his films. In Tightrope with the hookers and their attire. Hell if you look in the dictionary for the definition of tacky, you will see Sondra Locke’s picture. BTW, in case you didn’t notice, big Clint fan here! 😉

        I’ve always liked him. From Rowdy Yates, to talking to an empty chair, he’s been quite a character, both onscreen, and off. I knew that Clint and Sondra played together in that cinematic masterpiece, ‘The Gauntlet’, but just checked up on her, and realized she was also in ‘The Outlaw Josey Wales’ with him. 😯
        Rants only contributed a little essay full of words that start with T, so I think I’ll award you the prize, and have a go at it. I’m composing a couple of other posts right now, but I hope to have it done before I move on to U. 😕
