Flash Fiction #190

Pin The Tail

PHOTO PROMPT © J Hardy Carroll

PUTTING THE FUN IN FUNCTIONAL ALCOHOLIC

I hate to do it to Dorothy, but I just can’t invite her and Greg to these neighborhood barbecues any more….

SOMEBODY KEEP AN EYE ON THE PUNCH BOWL!!

He’s the only guy I know who spikes the vodka – with tequila. He drinks a beer to instigate getting a shot. If I drank that much, I’d be comatose.

And that foul mouth of his…. I think alcohol shorts out his volume control. Kids in the next subdivision are learning dirty words. I’ve never seen him sober. How does he hold a job?

Somebody should pin a tail on that jackass.

Pity his wife and family. This was painfully believable.

I’ve seen a few of these suffering wives – and husbands. Often there’s a nice person inside, but they’re shrouded by alcohol fumes. I don’t believe in banning booze but, moderation in all things. 😳

You seem to dislike George and his out of the ordinary habits. Now you want to pin a tail on him.

I’ve got a pin for you…it’s really long, and very sharp… ah, right here in my sewing kit…this one should do… here! (Hands off a long darning needle).

  11. Dear Archon,

Sadly, there are too many Georges out there. Love the last line. Says it all. Great use of the prompt!

I feel sorry for (some) substance abusers. They won’t admit that they have a problem, or seek help, until they hit bottom. Perhaps when he finds that he has no friends…. 😯
Thanx for taking time out of your busy writer-wrangling day, to stop by again. 🙂

  12. Great take on the prompt, we all know a loudmouthed, substance abuser, the shame is we usually put up with it until it becomes out of control, too embarrassed to step in earlier.
