WOW
I couldn’t get too egg-cited about Rochelle’s photo prompt, but I finally decided on a theme for a Word Of The Week post. It took a little
JIGGERY-POKERY
but I did it.
trickery, hocus-pocus; fraud; humbug.
sly, underhanded action.
manipulation:
C19: from Scottish dialect joukery-pawkery
Like many folk-sayings involving the Scots, its pronunciation has changed over the years. Joukery means a sudden, elusive movement, or, to duck or dodge. It comes from the Old English word which gave us both jerk, and jink. High jinks – high-jinks – or hi-jinks, therefore, is/are boisterous celebration or merrymaking, unrestrained fun.
Pawky, in British English, means cunning, or sly. In Scottish, it means having a dry wit – from the Scottish word pawk, meaning trick.

I couldn’t hatch a 100 word post from Todd Foltz’s photo prompt. It took a little sly, underhanded, linguistic, broken-field running to produce this. I hope a few are interested.
Eggsquisite post!(*´▽`*)

Jiggery pokery sounds positively filthy. Not sure what that has to do with eggs, but then again I don’t want to!

The perspective in that photo had me all confuzzled. I thought that they were grapefruit, or some kind of melon, and I couldn’t do anything with it. I was desperately trying to compose a WOW post to substitute for the FF. About an hour before my self-imposed publishing deadline, I looked at the pic for the second – or perhaps the seventh – time, realized that they were eggs, and that with the addition of a dumb joke at the front and back, I could change one into the other. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. 😀

Since all of us are writers, to one degree or another, I was hoping that at least a few would find the word history informative and fun. 🙂

My dad was Scottish, but this is a new word to me. By the way, congratulations on passing the 1,800 followers mark recently.

We’ve watched a fair amount of British ‘telly’. I’m sure that I’ve heard it used there a couple of times.
Thanx for the congrats. Stats aren’t reality, but it’s still nice to see the numbers. I’m looking forward to 2000. I already have a graphic to add to my sidebar. WordPress used to send them out, but I haven’t seen that for a while. 😀

I like “Keeping Up Appearances” and “As Time Goes By”, which are on our PBS network. I have 68 followers and 94 Youtube followers, so I have a ways to go before I start making the millions (ha ha). I have fun though.

I’d love to see you write a ditty with jiggery pokery in it. Or a limerick. Great word origins lesson today.
